About PepDiana

Multifunctional Peptide Database

PepDiana is named after Diana, the moon goddess associated with multiple phases. The database presents moonlight peptides, molecules with multiple biological activities, as a structured knowledge map for sequence, structure, evidence, and source-aware research.

Database overview

Integrated scope

PepDiana integrates multifunctional peptide sequences, bioactivities, provenance, literature evidence, and structural annotations from curated public resources.

Evidence first

Gold, Silver, and Bronze annotation tiers make provenance depth visible before users export records or build downstream models.

Research workflows

The interface supports browsing, sequence and keyword search, multi-select filters, favorites, comparison, analytics, citation, and export.

Local development stack

The current frontend is built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, backed by FastAPI and PostgreSQL.

What researchers can do

  • Search peptides by sequence motif, name, identifier, or evidence keyword.
  • Filter by activity class, source database, annotation level, quality, length, mass, and structure type.
  • Save local favorites, compare shortlists, export current pages or full matching result sets.
  • Inspect detail pages with citations, standards, provenance, raw annotations, and derived molecular notations.
  • Use Analytics heatmaps and matrices to enter Browse through evidence-backed drilldowns.

Methodology and data quality

Data layers

Integrated records, Primary-literature peptide identities, and evidence without a safely standardized sequence are stored at distinct grains. Sequence links connect layers without allowing one layer to overwrite another.

Traceability

Integrated activities retain stable source IDs and record URLs. Primary observations retain publication, mention, activity-record, table/figure/location, raw value, and evidence-sentence provenance.

Versioned computation

Physicochemical descriptors and ProForma 2.0, HELM 2.0, and SMILES representations are precomputed per release with method, tool version, assumptions, input hash, status, and quality flags.

Citation and maintenance

PepDiana is maintained as a research data product. Please cite the database record and retain source identifiers when exporting evidence for reports, notebooks, model training, or downstream validation.
